Spirit Medicine: qì (氣)

Qi (氣) has many meanings depending upon the context. In the context of qigong (氣功) and neigong (內功), it refers to life (vital) energy.

Neigong

In the practice of neigong (內功), qi can be understood in two main polarities, yang (陽) qi and yin (陰) qi.

There are different grades of yang and yin qi. In its more purest form, is pure awareness (yang qi) and pure form (yin qi). These are (likely) related to light and gravity.

Lesser yang qi feels like liquid electricity.

Lesser yin qi feels like a magnetic fluid.

The practice of neigong itself aims to form a container fixed at the lower dantian (下丹田) with yin qi (making the bucket), and then resting awareness in the condensed field, drawing in yang qi. It is a common error in fantasy literature to use intent to compress or squeeze this – that will only lead to yang qi to compress yang qi, which will quickly dissipate.
